Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. Intermediate Level classes are suggested for students who have at least three to five years of training.īallet: Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Open Level - These classes are suggested for students who have at least two to three years of dance training and are a mixture of levels, Beginning through Intermediate. This class is also where steps and combinations of steps from the variations class will be broken down and worked on. The vocabulary is expanded and the class works at a faster pace. Classes move at a slow pace enabling students to gain knowledge and strength in execution of the dance steps.īeginning/Intermediate Level - Teachers assume students attending this class have the terminology however may still be working on the execution of the steps. Additionally, through its sister program Manners Pro, KDT offers etiquette consulting services for ages 4 - adult. Additionally, KDT offers a scholarship fund to help students pursue their dreams in dance who otherwise could not afford instruction. Teachers and student assistants involved volunteer their time each week to help these students improve their motor skills, confidence, and socialization while having fun. Our Special Needs Program offers free dance classes to students with down syndrome, autism, and other developmental disabilities. KDT is also dedicated to giving back to the community by performing for local events and organizations free of charge. There are more than 100 classes offered each week in ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, aerial fabric, musical theatre and fitness for ages 2 through adult. We offer a professionally trained staff bringing quality dance education to over 500 students. Although the studio has grown and changed over the years, it continues to be one of the most well known and premiere dance studios in the Houston area, offering classes with a high standard of style, technique, and performance. Director and Founder Mary Lee Kennedy wanted to establish a studio that could offer a comprehensive artistic experience with dance, musical theatre, performing arts classes and more. Kennedy Dance Theatre ('KDT') opened up as a performing arts studio in 1973 in Pasadena, TX on a $200 investment. ![]()
